Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing replay systems.
Video review systems will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the right to challenge certain calls made by the official, following the practice currently in place at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the number of reviews a competitor can request.
Practical Application
A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
